Books We Are Reading

In March, we will be reading about the continents and learning how children all over the world are similar to them.  We will also be reading about famous African Americans that helped change the way people think and also helped change some laws.  This month, we will finish up our study of space and the planets and move on to learning about the weather and St. Patty's Day.

What's New in the Homeroom

This week in science, we had a chance to make a mess!  The kids had a syringe, bottle, tubes, a stopper and water.  They learned that they could suck the water up with the syringe, create bubbles in the water and make a fountain.  We will be finishing up more of this lesson next week.

We also put said to bed this week.  We talked about many other words that can be used in place of said.  The kids came up with some silly sentences and they had to say them in different ways, for example, whine, mumble, yell, cry, etc.  They enjoyed saying the sentences in a different way.  The next day, they also had to write five sentences using one of the new replacement words for said.

Lastly, starting talking about the food pyramid and ways that food help us stay healthy.  They made healthy food collages in health, we played a food pyramid game and next week we will be doing a healthy snack week.  Check above for details.
