Current Assignments
The children are very excited and have been reading up a storm. The trees are up and the monkeys have begun to climb. What does this mean... each child created a monkey and the class helped to create three trees on the wall of our class. The monkey climbs the tree for each book or chapter that your child has read. When they reach 50 they get a banana in the tree. A banana gets them lunch in the classroom or a prize from the prize basket. Remember to read at least 15 minutes a night and log your books. Send them in daily so they count towards the tree. The children also have D.E.A.R. (Drop everything and read) Time in the classroom. Keep Reading!!!
Current Schedules and Events
Remember to review the family flyer for any upcoming school events.
Remember to wear sneakers on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for PE with Mr. M.
Remember Wednesday is ILP day. We also have art with Ms. Jen.
Upcoming Field Trips
Remember to review the family flyer for any upcoming school field trips.
Books We Are Reading
We have been reading and learning about Patricia Polacco. Thank you to those families who have gone to the library and brought in her books. Please continue to do so with any units we are studying or exploring. We have discovered that a lot of her stories are based on her own personal experiences. This will tie in nicely with Writing Workshop. The children will be writing a personal narrative. If you have not already done so check out Patricia Polacco's website: www.patriciapolacco.com. If you have a favorite author please let me know.
What's New in the Homeroom
On Monday's we will be having Social Studies. We will be integrating Social Studies and art. We are very lucky to have Ms. Karen as a TA in our school this year. Last year she was our art consultant. She will be joining our class in the afternoon for an hour. We will be exploring and studying the 7 continents. Each child has a continent they will be researching at school and at home. They will be learning how to do this at school and then will be coming home with a worksheet on what to do at home. Assignments will be handed out on Mondays and will be due the following Monday. This way you have enough time to get the project or the research done. I will be showing the children a rubric on what I expect for each assignment. This will be part of their progress report.
