Current Assignments

In Ms. Geaber’s homeroom we are working on publishing narrative writing. We spend almost an hour most afternoons in writer’s workshop. This is where students learn new genres of writing and get the opportunity to put their skills to work. In science, we are using the sound kit. This kit teaches students about volume, pitch, and vibration. They learn about how sound travels from one location to another. In social studies we are learning about local communities as well as other types of communities. Students are completing an in class project where they are creating a three dimensional community. The students have been working very hard at their Spanish as well. The students order their lunches in Spanish and take attendance in Spanish. They are learning to tell time in Spanish. They already know colors, numbers, and days of the week, months, weather, greetings, classroom vocabulary, and the verb tener. Students will continue to learn more about how to conjugate verbs in Spanish. The students also get the chance to learn about many Spanish speaking cultures.

Reading Group- Miss Geaber’s reading group is reading Eagle Song. Eagle Song is a novel written by Joseph Bruchac. This novel is from the Steps to Respect program which is an anti-bullying program. The main theme of the novel is about peace and treating others with respect no matter how different they appear to be. The students are working comprehension skills as well as building their understanding of literature. We are studying elements such as plot, main character, theme, setting, mood, and point of view. The students are also working with an art consultant to incorporate literature and art.

Math Group- Miss Geaber’s math group is working in the Connecting Math Concepts level C. The students are improving multiplication, addition, and subtraction skills. They are also learning about area and fractions. Students work on word problems in their math journals and are also learning to explain how they arrive at an answer. The students also deal with real life math problems such as planning a party, grocery shopping, keeping score, and balancing a check book.
