Current Assignments

     Students in Ms. Geaber's fourth grade classroom have been very busy.  We are currently wrapping up a unit on the Civil War.  Students read various historical fiction novels based on the Civil War.  They have had the opportunity to view the war through mulitple perspectives to reach a deeper understanding of the conflict.  They have aslo created Civil War journals starting with the rise of tension and ending with 3/5 clause.  Students have had the opportunity to familiarze themselves with the geography of the north and the south through several map activities. 

     In science we are learning about carbon printing.  Students had the opportunity to learn how to identify thier own fingerprints as either loop, arch, or whorl.  Based on the informaiton we created a bar graph to display our data.  We have also had the chance to do leaf rubbings to identify the venation pattern.  Up and coming in the science kit will be paper choromatography and refelcting.  Students will continue to keep a scientist journal where they make predictions, claims, and provide evidence.

     Students are currently working on a  personal narrative with a focus on elaborative detail.  We are learning how to take a drafted piece of writing and revise it to make it more appealing to the reader.  At home students should be encouraged to make revisions to thier writing and to be mindful of ways to imprve thier writing.  After science experiements the class will work on expository writing based on the experiements.
